Mark E. Ellis
Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer
Mark E. Ellis is the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of LINN Energy, LLC. LINN Energy's mission is to acquire, develop and maximize cash flow from a growing portfolio of long-life oil and natural gas assets. The company's core focus areas are the Mid-Continent, Permian Basin, Williston Basin, Michigan and California.
Mr. Ellis has more than 30 years of experience in the oil and natural gas industry. He joined LINN Energy in December 2006 as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer in December 2007, President and Chief Executive Officer in January 2010 and his current role in December 2011.
Before joining LINN, Mr. Ellis served as President of the Lower 48 for ConocoPhillips. Prior to joining ConocoPhillips, he served as Senior Vice President of North American Production for Burlington Resources. He first joined Burlington Resources in 1985 and served in roles of increasing responsibility, including President of Burlington Resources Canada Ltd. in Calgary, Vice President and Chief Engineer, Vice President of the San Juan Division, and Manager of Acquisitions. He began his career at The Superior Oil Company, where he served in several engineering positions in the onshore and offshore divisions.
Mr. Ellis holds a bachelor's degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M University and is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He serves on the boards of America's Natural Gas Alliance, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Industry Board of Petroleum Engineering at Texas A&M University, and Visiting Committee of Petroleum Engineering at the Colorado School of Mines. He is also a past board member of the New Mexico Oil & Gas Association and previously served on the Board of Governors of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.
Kolja Rockov
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Kolja Rockov is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of LINN Energy, LLC. Before joining LINN Energy in March 2005, Mr. Rockov served as Managing Director and Head of U.S. Exploration and Production for the RBC Capital Markets Energy Group in Houston. With his extensive background of more than 12 years as an energy investment banker, Mr. Rockov identified LINN Energy as an excellent candidate for the first IPO of a limited liability company in the exploration and production sector.
In his role at LINN, Mr. Rockov oversees all finance and accounting functions, investor relations and business development. He plays a key role in sourcing and evaluating potential acquisitions. He is also the primary corporate contact with bankers, lenders and private capital providers for obtaining new sources of capital to finance growth and execute the company's hedging activities.
Prior to September 2000, Mr. Rockov held various senior positions with Dain Rauscher Wessels and Rauscher Pierce Refsnes, Inc., predecessors of RBC Capital Markets. He received a BBA in finance and economics from Southern Methodist University. Mr. Rockov is a member of the board of Small Steps Nurturing Center in Houston.
Arden L. Walker, Jr.
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Arden Walker is Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of LINN Energy, LLC. He joined LINN in February 2007 as Senior Vice President – Operations and Chief Engineer, was promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer in January 2010 and his current role in January 2011. The company's core focus areas are the Mid-Continent, Permian Basin, Williston Basin, Michigan and California.
Mr. Walker has 30 years of experience in the oil and natural gas industry. He came to LINN Energy from ConocoPhillips, where he served as Asset Development Manager, San Juan Business Unit. Prior to that role, he served in various leadership positions of increasing responsibility at Burlington Resources. He began his career with El Paso Exploration Company in 1982.
Mr. Walker earned a Bachelor of Science in petroleum engineering from Texas Tech University. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and Independent Petroleum Association of America. He serves on the board of directors for the Sam Houston Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and Theatre Under the Stars, a non-profit organization that provides world-class theatre and educational programs to children and adults.
Charlene A. Ripley
Senior Vice President and General Counsel
Charlene A. Ripley is LINN Energy's Senior Vice President and General Counsel. She oversees the company's legal, information technology, corporate governance, compliance, government affairs, insurance and risk-management activities. Ms. Ripley brings extensive domestic and international experience in legal-department management and energy transactions to her role at LINN Energy, where she also leads cultural-development initiatives and serves on the company's charitable contributions committee.
Prior to joining LINN Energy in April 2007, Ms. Ripley served as Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary and Chief Compliance Officer for Anadarko Petroleum Corporation. She joined Norcen Energy Resources Limited, a predecessor to Anadarko Canada Corporation, in 1997 and assumed the role of chief legal officer for Anadarko Petroleum Corporation in November 2003. She served as in-house counsel for Amoco Canada Petroleum Company Ltd. from 1990 to 1997. Previously, she was an attorney for a law firm based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Ms. Ripley holds a Bachelor of Arts, with distinction, from the University of Alberta. She earned her law degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and is a member of the Texas State Bar, Law Society of Alberta and Canadian Bar Association. She currently chairs the Oil and Gas Practice Committee of the Institute for Energy Law and serves on the board of the Texas General Counsel Forum. She is also the past President of The Woodlands Bar Association, which she helped found.
Ms. Ripley is a passionate philanthropist, who spends numerous volunteer hours serving on the non-profit boards of several charitable organizations including the Impact Youth Development Center, American Heart Association of Houston and Girls Inc. She also takes the time to personally mentor young women through organizations like the Women's Energy Network and Girls Inc., which was formed to inspire all girls to be smart, strong and bold. In addition, she serves on the advisory boards of the Women's Energy Network and Executive Women's Partnership of the Greater Houston Partnership. She is also a member of the United Way of Greater Houston Women's Initiative.
Ms. Ripley received the 2010 Magna Stella Award from the Texas General Counsel Forum for in-house excellence in leadership and management. She was also the recipient of the Houston Business Journal's Best Corporate Counsel Award for "Good Samaritan" in 2011, in 2009 for "Best Corporate Counsel with a Staff of two to 10," and in 2006 for "Best Handling of a Complex, Difficult or Challenging Issue."
David B. Rottino
Senior Vice President, Finance and Business Development
David B. Rottino is LINN Energy's Senior Vice President, Finance and Business Development, and Chief Accounting Officer. LINN Energy's mission is to acquire, develop and maximize cash flow from a growing portfolio of long-life oil and natural gas assets. Mr. Rottino oversees the company's business development, accounting, financial reporting, treasury, tax and internal control functions.
Prior to joining LINN Energy in June 2008, Mr. Rottino was the Vice President and E&P Controller for El Paso Corporation. Previously, he served at Burlington Resources as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the Canadian division and Director of Financial Analysis and Corporate Accounting. Following Burlington's merger with ConocoPhillips, he served as Assistant Controller for ConocoPhillips.
Mr. Rottino is a Certified Public Accountant. He earned a bachelor's in business administration from Texas Tech University and an MBA from Texas Christian University. He serves on the board of Camp for All, a nonprofit organization that strives to enrich the lives of people with special needs.
